AMALGAM FERRARI 156 F1 SHARKNOSE, PHIL HILL #2 1:8

About the Ferrari 156 F1 “The evocative Ferrari 156 F1 Sharknose, so-called due to its unusual front air vents, was Ferrari’s first Formula One machine with the engine positioned behind the driver. The result of a brief given by Ferrari to new Technical Director, Carlo Chiti with the clear instruction to create a car capable of winning the Formula One World Championship for the Scuderia under new, downsized 1.5-litre engine regulations, the Sharknose did not disappoint. The 156 boasted a simple and clever design, with a tubular chassis dressed in aluminum panels. A new lightweight 120-degree V6 engine was developed for the new rules, with the resulting angle of the cylinder blocks providing a lower centre of gravity.  So successful was the little Sharknose that it won the first five out of seven races in the Championship, including a 1-2-3-4 finish at Spa. With a driver pairing of Phil Hill and Wolfgang von Tripp, the latter of whom tragically lost his life at the Monza race, the Sharknose delivered the Constructors’ Championship to the Scuderia. Hill also won the Drivers’ Championship in the same year. The 156 continued to be used for two more seasons scoring single wins in 1963 and 1964 respectively.”
